CHAOSBREED Drummer Explains Change In Recording Plans

September 4, 2003

CHAOSBREED drummer Nalle Österman (ex-GANDALF) has posted the following message to the band's official web site:

"Hi, this is Nalle from CHAOSBREED, greetings from Stockholm! Even when we had to cancel our recordings at Sunlight [studios] we didn't want to leave our ferry tickets unused. So instead of CHAOSBREED traveling to Stockholm, the 31th of August saw me, Oppu, Junior from MANNHAI and Toni from TWILIGHT OPHERA sailing to the capital of Sweden with Viking Line's M/S Mariella.

"Actually the trip itself was quite mellow, nothing compared to the trips to Stockholm and Fagersta we used to make in our wild youths with Oppu — we are growing old for fuck's sake! Stockholm is a very beautiful city but where's all the bars!?! And it would be great to know if there even is a section in Stockholm which would be the equivalent of Kallio in Helsinki with all its cheap and sleazy bars and joints… Of course we went to knock on the door to Sunlight but it was — and stayed — shut. So we did the next best thing and went to the Jacuzzi and sauna on the ferry instead. Ah, back to home sweet home, tired but not too hung over.

"As previously reported, we were forced to cancel the recordings of our debut album due to the fact that [producer and Sunlight owner] Tomas Skogsberg had some personal family problems he had to take care of. Words cannot describe how devastated and sad we felt when we got the news that we would have to postpone the recordings. Of course we wish Tomas to be able to sort out his problems but our schedule just couldn't allow any delays.

"We had worked hard for several months composing and rehearsing the material in shape in order to make a killer brutal insane kick-ass album with Tomas. Due to everyone's ultra-tight schedule — with Taneli recording the next THE BLACK LEAGUE album in August, Oppu starting the preparations for the third MANNHAI album due to be recorded in October and Esa starting some heavy gigging with AMORPHIS next week — we just had to record our album first week in September. We really didn't want to push the recordings somewhere in the distant future, because that would probably leave us losing the momentum we have built in the last couple of months.

"We definitely wish all the best for Tomas and have no hard feelings even when we couldn't record with him this time around. But personally I tend to believe that some things happen for a reason and maybe this is one of them. For some reason we have been cursed lately by studios: when we recorded our songs for the split-single with RYTMIHÄIRIÖ, one song just disappeared… Like to work with computers? Think again.

"We have not abandoned the plans to have Tomas mix our album, so maybe he will be able to finish the album after all. Rest assured, fueled by our vision and by our hearts we promise you to work our asses off in order to bring YOU the best album we possibly can! And there will be studio reports providing you all the havoc and mayhem straight from the studio. Also some downloadable live material from our gig at Tavastia with FINNTROLL will be put on the website soon. So nice we are, aren't we? Ok, bye from us now, time to go to kick some ass!"

As previously reported, CHAOSBREED will commence the recording sessions for "Brutal" later this week at CCPC studio in Finland with producers Santeri Kallio and Niclas Etelävuori. An early 2004 release through an as-yet-undetermined label is expected. The group will open for ENTOMBED at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland on September 15.
